About me

"My musical career was and is a continuous exploration of different musical styles. My studies and career of scoring for movies directed me and taught me how to compose with different musical styles, covering in essence the whole spectrum of music. All my precious previous experiences with scores were used and melt in my pop-rock-jazz albums. Even if I'm mostly perceived today as a 'Smooth Jazz' composer, I'm aware that I don't have a particular musical style. I surely do not want to have or follow a specific music genre, this decision was made years ago at the beginning of my career.

My albums can focus sometimes on some particular genere like 'Mystic Jazz' that was dedicated to the late Miles Davis,  or being just kind of a musical compilation like 'Mystic Man' or 'Neopagan'. A complete separate chapter was my experience in Rock-Baroque in 1973 when I was a 'hippie adolescent' signed by RCA...lol..it was really funny to play in duo with Carlo Bordini on my organ C3 Hammond!   Not following one style is surely challenging and arduous, from an artistic and marketing perspective, but can give to the artist the maximum freedom of expression. In my opinion this is the way for the 'musician of the future' that will incarnate/inglobate as a 'one man band', playing state-of-the-art instruments, the experience and knowledge of past centuries of musical styles.   I do hope to have a personal trademark sound that can reflect my own overall peculiar style, whatsoever music genre I'm interpreting with a particular song. For me music styles are like colors for a picture, words for a screenplay, not always painters or movie directors make the same genre of movies or paintings. This is how I like to do with my music.

Why does a composer or a performer need to be crucified to a repetitive genre?.. I take as a compliment when somebody said to me that my albums sound like 'compilations' or 'movie soundtracks'...that's cool! The most important thing for me is that besides styles I will always like to write good music (hopefully!), whether rock, pop, smooth-jazz, new age, classic etc.."
